Skylight windows are one of the best ways to flood your living space with natural light, but knowing how to clean your skylight windows from the inside can make all the difference in keeping your space bright and your glass clear.

In many environments dust and condensation can quickly build up, especially on the inside of the window, and combined with the awkward height and angle of most skylights, they can be a headache to clean inside. During today’s blog, we will be discussing the best approaches and tools you can use to make this chore a perfectly manageable task.

Before You Start

Safely reaching your skylight windows so you can clean them inside starts with having the right tools for the job. You should never use makeshift solutions when doing a job like this as depending on the height of the window, the consequences can be much more severe than the reward. Avoid overstretching or balancing and don’t stack unstable objects to reach higher spots. Here’s what will make your life much easier:

A telescopic cleaning pole (ideally reaching the height of your skylight windows)
A microfibre cloth and a dry microfibre towel
Glass cleaning solution
A secure step ladder (if needed)

Steps

Safety always comes first. The first step in cleaning your skylight windows from the inside is to (if you need it to reach the window) position your ladder on stable ground, ensuring it won’t budge. Never lean dangerously off of elevated platforms like this, it’s much more effective to get a longer cleaning pole.

Use a duster or the brush attachment on the cleaning pole to rid the window pane of any dirt, dust or other debris. This will mean you’re not smearing anything when you try and clean the surface of the skylight window.

If reachable, spray your cleaning solution onto the window itself and if not spray it instead on the pole. Then, use the microfibre cloth in gentle circular motions, patiently working on any visible marks.

Then, once you’re satisfied with the surface being clean, use your dry cloth to wipe any excess solution. Start from the top and pull downwards in even strokes until the whole window has been cleared. You should now see the results of your work with a clean skylight window.

Allow for a few minutes to pass and then inspect the window for any missed spots. When cleaning skylight windows from the inside, it can be easy to miss areas if you rush.

Final Thoughts

Learning how to properly clean skylight windows inside gives you more control in your home’s appearance and also saves you money. With the right tools and equipment any window is cleanable.
